Facial Acupuncture

A Holistic Approach to Facial Health

Facial acupuncture at MasterChi is not approached as a cosmetic procedure. It is part of a broader acupuncture approach that treats the face as part of the whole body, rather than as an isolated aesthetic concern.

This treatment is for those who value natural regulation, long-term skin health, and overall wellbeing, rather than quick or structural cosmetic solutions.

What Is Facial Acupuncture?

Facial acupuncture is a specialised form of acupuncture that uses ultra-fine needles on the face, together with body acupuncture, to support skin condition, muscular balance, and overall internal regulation.

At MasterChi, facial acupuncture is approached within a holistic framework. Rather than focusing on appearance alone, treatment considers the underlying patterns that may be contributing to visible change in the face.

Treatment may support:

  • facial and systemic circulation

  • muscular tone and areas of tension

  • puffiness and stagnation

  • skin vitality and overall complexion

  • contributing factors such as stress, sleep, digestion, and hormonal balance

Because the face reflects the state of the body, it is always treated as part of the whole person.

Who It May Be Suitable For

Facial acupuncture may be suitable for those experiencing facial changes linked to stress, health, lifestyle, or the natural aging process.

This may include:

  • Dull or uneven complexion

  • Facial or under-eye puffiness

  • Fine lines, particularly expression lines

  • Early loss of firmness

  • Stress-related facial tension (jaw clenching, tightness)

  • Adult or stress-related acne (case-dependent)

  • Fatigue-related dark circles

This treatment is best suited to those seeking gradual, natural change and longer-term support, rather than immediate or dramatic cosmetic effect.

A Condition-Based Approach

At MasterChi, we make a clear distinction between facial structure and facial condition.

Structural concerns — such as significant volume loss, deeper fixed lines, or more pronounced sagging — are generally more appropriately addressed within aesthetic medicine.

Facial acupuncture is better suited to condition-related concerns, including:

  • poor circulation

  • muscular tension or imbalance

  • puffiness

  • skin vitality

  • facial stress patterns

For this reason, facial acupuncture is not presented as an alternative to injectables or surgery, nor as a treatment intended to alter facial structure or expression.

Instead, it is approached in the same way acupuncture is approached more broadly at MasterChi: as a way of supporting balance, regulation, and function over time.

Our Treatment Approach

Initial Consultation and Treatment (90+ minutes)

Your first appointment is a comprehensive consultation designed to establish whether this treatment is appropriate, safe, and likely to be helpful for you.

This includes:

  • assessment of facial concerns and skin condition

  • review of medical history and current medication

  • discussion of sleep, stress, digestion, and other relevant lifestyle factors

  • evaluation from a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective

  • development of an individualised treatment plan

Where appropriate, treatment may begin during this first session.

Ongoing Treatments (60 minutes)

Follow-up sessions include:

  • facial acupuncture with ultra-fine needles

  • body acupuncture to support systemic balance

  • ongoing adjustment according to how you respond to treatment

Treating the body as a whole is central to this approach. In our view, facial change cannot be addressed in a meaningful or sustainable way by treating the face alone.

Recommended Treatment Program

Where a more consistent course of care is appropriate, a 10-treatment course is available.

Facial acupuncture is generally most effective when approached as a course of treatment rather than as an occasional session. Its effects tend to build gradually, with treatment adjusted over time according to individual response.

A course of care may support:

  • greater continuity

  • gradual and cumulative change

  • refinement of treatment over time

  • support for both facial presentation and underlying systemic patterns

To support this way of working, the 10-treatment course is offered at a 20% reduced rate. This reflects our belief that facial acupuncture is best approached as part of an ongoing therapeutic process, rather than as a one-off cosmetic service.
